Visit the Wadden islands!
Holwerd is 45 minutes by car from the hotel. From there you can take the ferry to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog. From Holwerd you can reach Ameland in about an hour, and Schiermonnikoog in 45 minutes. These two islands are really worth a visit, if only to experience the island feeling.
Ameland has everything!
The island of Ameland is diverse in nature. You will find dunes, beach, forest, mudflats and vast meadows. Don't forget to visit the cozy villages of Nes and Hollum and of course climb the lighthouse! You can enjoy cycling on Ameland. Did you know that Ameland has 100 kilometers of cycle paths? Enough to do! Want to recover from your bike ride? Beachclub The Sunset & beach club Sjoerd Ameland are really the places where you can have a delicious lunch, dinner or just enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and cake. It is possible to take your car on the ferry to Ameland, other than Schiermonnikoog.
Schiermonnikoog: tranquility & unspoiled nature
Schiermonnikoog is smaller than Ameland, and there is an enormous peace. This is partly because visitors to the island have to leave their car behind in Holwerd. Board the ferry and leave the hustle and bustle of the mainland behind as you set sail for this gem between the Wadden Islands. And did you know that Schiermonnikoog has two lighthouses: the white one and the red one. Only the red lighthouse is still in function on the Wadden Island.
The unspoiled nature is beautiful and especially bird watchers and peace seekers are at the right place here. Schiermonnikoog has an excellent network of foot, cycle and equestrian trails. Really the perfect island to spend a day!
